We have recently taken up residence, with our partners Eden Horticulture, at Sandon Garden Centre, just outside Chelmsford, where we have a design studio, ideal for meeting up to discuss your garden plans over a cake and coffee from the cafe. And we are in the process of installing several show gardens to both inspire and show exactly what we can create. 

From small to large, traditional to contemporary we can create a garden that will enrich clients lives and add value to properties. Based in Chelmsford we work all across Essex and the South East but are happy to travel further for exciting projects.

Last project of 2011 ends with large lawn.

At the end of 2011 we returned to a large project that we designed and part built with the clients contractors.

This was a very enjoyable project, large scale and the client really used his personal knowledge of stone and materials to bring the design to life.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Whilst his team are still finishing the deck and a few other details we returned to finish our last major job, to lay a new lawn.

This large area needed a lot of preparation to get the finish the client was looking for. We bought in tonnes of new topsoil and soil improver and worked it into the existing soil to create a really good base for the new turf. 

We will return in the Spring to assess the planting scheme and possibly add to the planting and make sure the lawn has settled in nicely, but for now this one can be put to bed and the new view enjoyed by the clients even if it's too cold to get out and use it!

 

Balau hardwood deck, all in the detail.

The large front garden project we are completing at the moment is moving on and we have now complete done of the key features, a hardwood deck leading out from the kitchen/diner.

 

 

 

 

 

 

We've done many hardwood decks but n this case the client asked us to look for ways to really make the most of this great looking wood. And one way we instantly discussed was to use a method to fix the deck which meant the screws were unseen. After a bit of research we discovered a clip system that seemed to fit the bill.

And having now completed the deck using this method we would certainly look to use it again. It really helps maintain that smooth look and keeps the focus on this beautiful wood.

Paving, decking, driveway, garden walls; this one's got the lot!

We're a couple of weeks into our latest garden design project and things are really starting to take shape. We completed this clients back garden last year and leapt at the chance to help to complete the front garden.

With a steep rise from the driveway entrance to the property the big task with this design was to sort out the levels. After several meetings with the client where we discussed different options we settled on a design which included two patios in front of the house split into two levels to work as steps up to the house.

  

Finishing touches to latest garden build.

We recently returned to a garden we designed and built to add the final touches - the planting and lighting for a new section of the garden.

The plant list was created to be relatively low maintenance and also to provide a bridge between the existing garden and this new area. The design utilised this un-used area at the side of the house to create an intimate area where the clients could have a fire-pit a barbeque and enough room for friends and family to gather.

New build garden transformation.

Been a very busy few weeks here at Westacott Gardens as we've had a run of several smaller jobs to complete and some larger one's in the pipeline so lots to look forward to.

One of these smaller gardens was a new build garden that was literally empty and needed a design to be implemented so the owners could get out and use their garden this Summer.

The clients had a pretty clear plan, so we helped them visualise this with a quick 3d mock up and with a few tweaks we set to building the design.

New design makes the most of wasted space.

We're now well into the final stages of our current garden design and build project. The final part includes implementing a design we created to make the most of a wasted area at the side of our clients house. the brief included creating an intimate area for seating to incorporate a new wood burner and areas for planting.

With the design agreed we set about clearing the space and starting to take the design from paper to garden.

So busy here at the moment it's been tricky to get time to update the site, but here's a picture of a hardwood deck just installed on our latest garden. More to follow it!

Raising garden levels creates more use-able space.

We've kicked off on our new project and completed the first section of this design and build. The first job was to raise and area at the back of the garden which drops away about two feet. This change in level was created by what used to be an area that had a stream running through it. with the stream now safely re-directed the client wanted to raise the level to increase the area they could use.

Most recent garden design nears completion.

 
Our latest design and build project is virtually complete. with just a good tidy needed and the electricians to finish off the lighting we are there. This has been a great project for a client who has really allowed us to stretch our creative wings. The garden is full of strange angles and odd areas that were never really connected. So the design sough to bring the garden together and make it a garden that would be used to its full potential whilst looking great and being easy to look after.
